One of the best tourist attraction in India and a princely state too, Jaisalmer. It is not just the tourist attraction but a place full of cultural, ethical and societal surroundings. This Golden City of India is close to Pakistan border and Thar Desert. The world famous Jaisalmer Fort was built in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, which is a mud fort named after himself which was declared as his capital later.

How to Reach

  • Air-The Jodhpur airport is the nearest international airport from jaisalmer which is 332 km away . One can hire taxis or private means to reach there.
  • Railways-The city has well connected networks of trains. The railway station is in the center of the desert city.One can reach the destination using the private taxis etc.
  • Roads- The city has excellent connectivity of roads. The transport facility is also good. One can hire public transport buses,luxury coaches, sleeper AC buses.taxis etc.

Places to visit in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort-

It is the golden fort of Rajasthan also known as sonar quila as it is made of mud and rises from the desert. The sun acts as a miracle which adds a blessfull beauty to this fort. It si one of the most beautiful Forts in Rajasthan and it is a world heritage site too.

Jaisalmer Government Museum– It is a museum which was built by the Department of Archaeology and Museums. It is one of the most visited tourist attraction in Rajasthan.

Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli- It was built in 19th century by two architect is the best example to show what is symmetry. Both brothers worked from the two opposite sides of the fort and the final output can be seen by us now. It is made of yellow sandstone which gives it a next level beauty and miniature style of paintings attracts a lot of tourists.

Patwa Ki Haveli- It was built between 1800 and 1860 by five Jains. It has five sections which means it is a beautiful combination of five havelis. It si the largest tourist attractions in Jiasalmer which is spreading over an area. One of the section is amazingly designed by Mural work and balconies, arches, jharokas, and big entrance gates are desigend by cravings and paintings on the walls. There are Jain Temples too.

Jaisalmer Desert Festival

It is the annual event that takes places in the golden city Jailsalmer in the month of February.It starts from 3 days prior to the full moon day.The festival is celebrated in the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Sam Dunes whcih is 42 km from Jisalmer. In the upcoming year 2021 it will be held from 7th february to 9th february.One can take part in longest moustache contest, polo matches, jeep safari, camel safari, camel rides, and many more.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit is from November to March when there is winter starting and the weather at that time is pleasing and cold which is the best thing about Jaisalmer.

There are many other tourist places in Jaisalmer and it has many wildlife sanctuaries, tiger reserves and lush green forests such as Desert National Park, Sadar Bazar, Gadisar Lake , Kanoi, Ranthambore national park.

Jaisalmer is 564 KM from Jaipur, the pink city. The city of jaipur is also one of the favorite tourist spot in INDIA.
